Surely You are Joking Mr. Feynman – Richard P. Feynman, USA (1918-1988)
Feynman was a student of physics. He passed undergraduate in Mit and enrolled in Princeton College for further study. He was quite unfamiliar in the system of Princeton College. As he arrived in Princeton, there was a tea party. As Mrs. Eisenhart asked him he liked cream or lemon in his tea. He answered that he would take both. She laughed and said “surely you’re joking Mr. Feynman. She said so because he had done social error. Likewise, he was quite surprised seeing students academic gown because they wore gowns without washing for three years.
Similarly, he had very interest to see cyclotron in Princeton. It was kept in the underground. As he went to see it, the room where it was kept was a disorder. In fact, in Princeton, cyclotron was made by the college. Feynman also liked to stay and talked with biology students. He also took much class of biology. He also did research on a phase and discovered the double mutation process. His that discovery made him popular among the biology students. Later, he was invited to Harvard University to give a lecture for biology.
The essay tells us that there is not any bar for genius and genuine person to get success in any fields but he/ she should have the keen interest in the thing and should also pay great labor to be a success in the chosen field, then they will certainly get their intended things. For example in the text, though the writer Feynman was a physics student, however, he did a great contribution in biology. He did research on a phase and discovered the double mutation process. His that discovery made him quite popular among the biology students. Not only this much, but Harvard University also invited him to give a lecture for biology students.
Truly, for readers, this text is quite difficult to understand. If anybody wants to know the essay in depth, he should have the basic ideas of biology and physics. For example, to understand the terms like “phase”, “double mutation process’, “cyclotron”, the readers might get the problem. In my opinion, this text is not fit for the students. Not only this much, Asian people really feel difficult to understand the text because there has been presented many foreign culture and customs. So being an Asian born ma, I do not see any social error of preferring cream and lemon both in tea because for me both items are all right in my tea.
After reading this essay, I get great encouragement to admit in M.A. English. Actually, i am a Nepali teacher and I have already passed M.A. in Nepali from RR campus. After that, I wanted to study M.A. in major English, so I have asked many friends about its syllables but all of them replied that it is quite difficult and I would not pass it. But after reading this text, I knew that if I did great labor, I will really pass in the examination securing good marks. So, I have decided to lean MA English and I hope that I will gain good marks.
