In the late 1980s, warnings began to come from leading authorities in the scientific community.
“The world is a warning. Climate zones are shifting. Glaciers are melting. Sea level is rising. These are not hypothetical events from a science fiction movie; these changes and others are already taking place, and we expect them to accelerate over the next years as the amounts of faces accumulating in the atmosphere through human activities increase. A rapid and continuous warming will not only be destructive to agriculture but also lead to the widespread death of forest trees, uncertainty in water supplies and the flooding of coastal areas.” [Houghton & Woodwell, 18989, P.36]

Explain in detail about the connection between a country’s population and a country’s ecology as well as economic development.
Ans: Over population is the main cause of ecological destruction. It has further invited many problems on the earth. At the beginning of the 19th century, the number of population was less than one billion. During that time, a human being had a negligible influence on the ecology of the earth as a whole. By 2000, the number of population crossed 6.1 billion. The pressure of over population and poverty forces people to cut down the dense forest to provide wood for heating and construction, food for animals and land to raise crops. The use of automobile and industrialization release a thick layer of smoke in the environment. The flame of smoke directly reaches the ozone layer causing environmental pollution. It reduces the ozone layer and the ultra-violet rays directly come onto the earth causing many kinds of disease. The economic development further invites environmental problem. Most of the danger to the world’s ecological systems comes directly form the attempts of nations to pursue economic development.
The developed countries should ask developing countries to change their traditional development strategies. The developed countries have exploited natural resources to pursue economic development. The developing countries have also started following the traditional pattern of development. The short-sighted view of developing the nations has a method of development. We should give priority over the sustainable development. Thus, the impact of overpopulation and economic development has caused pollution in the environment.
